Guidelines for KinderGym Parents
Why are parents asked to get involved?
Children aged between 1 and 5 years old work best with individual instruction and individual help in waiting, listening, learning new skills and interacting socially with other children.
KinderGym is a special time for children with their parent/carer to play and have fun in a safe and stimulating environment. The equipment is set-up with many in-built challenges that encourage the child to play, explore and experience many types of movement, activities and interaction.
Children have the opportunity to learn, practice and play during the KinderGym session which usually has a routine of Free Play, Warm-up and Group Time activities.
If in the first few weeks your child is reluctant to join the group, let him/her stay near and watch, keep your responses low key and relaxed.
Watching is a legitimate activity!
Soon they will be happy to join the fun! It’s important that the parent/carer share in the play – after all, at this age you are their ‘best’ playmate.
Share the game of peek-a-boo through the tunnel. A ball rolled down the wedge encourages the child to slide or roll down after it, while developing tracking skills as they watch it roll.
Keep in mind that children develop their skills at their own rate and development cannot be rushed.
